By 1943 the British economy was almost totally geared to war. Manufacturers had very few products to offer civilians. At the same time they wanted to keep their brand-names in the public eye. Advertisers responded with a great deal of ingenuity. These advertisements, appearing in 1943 and 1944, offer hints on stretching one's clothes ration along with reminders of how good LUX soap is.
