No. 1 - BEACH WRAP

The new beach wraps add muchly to the enjoyment of a summer holiday by the seaside. They may be made from cretonne or sponge cloth.

Our first design is one of the newest models, with a deep yoke and a gathered or bolster collar.

Pattern is in two pieces - half yoke and half collar. We are not giving the pattern of the cape part, as it is only two width of stright material, 34 in. Wide, cut to the required length.

Follow the diagram when cutting out, arranging the yoke and collar on the double material.

Open out your material, fold it up from the bottom, and cut off the two widths for the cape part. This done, proceed with stitching.

The yoke is made with a dart, so that it will fit closely to the shoulders. Find the centre back of the yoke and collar; stitch them together without fulness as far as the notch. Then gather the remaining portion of the collar, and stitch it to the top of rever, i.e., the turn back piece on the yoke.

Make a hem down the two front edges of the cape part, and seam up the centre back. Gather the top to fit the yoke; take a small turning on the yoke, and machine it on the gathers.

Mark a convenient place to slip the hands through and bind the opening. Fasten with a large button and loop.

Pattern is cut to fit a 36 inch bust measurement. Material required, 3 yards, 34 ins. Wide.

NO. 2 - FLARED FROCK

Frocks with flared skirts are still foremost in the fashion world, and are likely to remain so until well into the autumn.

Our second illustration has two popular features, the always favoured turn-back rever and roll collar, and flared skirt.

Pattern is in five pieces, viz., half front, half back, skirt and whole collar and sleeve.

Place the pattern on 54 inch material as per diagram.

We are giving the half front of the skirt. To obtain the half back, turn in the small portion where marked with a notch top and bottom. The side marked with one notch is the centre of the back and front. Place this to the fold to obtain the whole front and back.

Machine the shoulder and side seams up. Face the revers with material so that the right side will be show when turned back.

Stitch the inside sleeve seam, and place same in position at armhole, with the sleeve seam three inches in front of underarm seam of frock.

Turn in 1 in. Each side of the collar before cutting out.

It will be noted we are using the same collar for the jumper, and that is longer owing to the rever.

Cut the collar in double material; stitch it around the outer edge on the wrong side. Then turn inside out, press it, and sew the neck between the turned in edges of the inside of the collar.

Attach the blouse and skirt neatly together, and finish the base of the skirt with a crossway roll.

Pattern is cut to fit a 36 in. Bust measurement. Material required, 2½ yards, 54 ins. Wide.

No. 4 - LADY'S JUMPER

For this neat tennis jumper we are using the blouse part of the flared frock.

A band of straight material ornamented with buttons is sewn on each side; this may be left open at the top if required to form a small pocket.

Cut the collar as per pattern, and face the turn back revers, with the pattern forming theh tie; this allows for wider revers. Make a small opening in the front through which the tie may be threaded, and finish with buttons.

Pattern is cut to fit a 36 in. Bust measurement. Material required, 2 yards, 36 ins. wide.
