Dark Force Rising

Book 2 of a three cycle set by Timothy Zahn

A Review by Don J'Bar

When Timothy Zahn released this set of novels it set the world on fire! We were waiting for George Lucas to offer us more in the way of Space Opera, and lo and behold, the licensing from Lucasfilm came through and we got a taste, like fine Alderaan Wine, of what the greatest authors in the sci-fi genre could offer.

This three part series is still the standard to which all Star Wars Fiction is judged. And with good reason! This is top notch Star Wars Drama.

At the end of Heir to the Empire , Grand Admiral Thrawn had succeeded in rebuilding the Empire's fighting forces from the bridge of his flagship, the Chimaera, and was taking the war to the New Republic. Meanwhile, an unlikely alliance between one of the Fringe's most notorious "information brokers" (meaning smuggler), Talon Karrde and the New Republic, was blossoming. An ancient slave circuited armada, The Katana Fleet, had been lost during the days of the Clone Wars, and Karrde stumbled upon it. He made a deal...

Princess Leia, in her accustomed role as Ambassador, brokers a deal with a little known race of aliens, known as the Noghri, who have been in servitude to the Empire for years. This alliance becomes one of the most widely known in the EU.

Luke Skywalker, still gaining in Force Abilities, heads to the planet Jomark, where another Jedi awaits his arrival, with delusions of grandeur in his eyes....

Awesome reading again, folks! Timothy Zahn, weaves spellbinding drama, which begs for more.I finished this one, and immediately began book 3, The Last Command. Can't wait for more of Zahn's work.

I must say again, 4 of 4 reb's for this one!!

Just my two credits, Don
