Rebel Dream

By Aaron Allston

A Review by Don J'Bar

Things are heating up in the galactic battleground between our good friends of the New Republic and the Yuuzhan Vong. The New Republic Forces are fleeing from the continuous onslaught. Since the fall of Coruscant, there are no leaders to take charge and bring the fight to the Yuuzhan Vong. The few remaining Jedi remain hidden other than the Skywalkers , Jaina Solo and Kyp Durron who have joined together to pilot their X-Wings under Wedge Antilles.

Jaina, who is revered by the Yuuzhan Vong because of her status as a twin, plays a social game in her warfare. Taking on the persona of Yun Yammka, the trickster Goddess, she utilizes new strategies and techniques guided by the Force to bring her enemies down. Along with Kyp, she is formidable.

Luke and Mara, however, feel a strange disturbance in the Force emanating from Coruscant and along with Tahiri Viella and a crack Wraith intelligence team, they plan a foray back to the fallen city planet to investigate the source of the disturbance. They, too, use new techniques in their mission....

This novel brings back the memories of what Star Wars used to be, back in the days of the Original Trilogy. We see the emergence of small rebel "cells" taking on the dominant tyrants of the galaxy, just the way a few heroes took on Palpatine and company in the not so distant past... Our friends learn the lessons that they seemed to forget from before, big stumbling bureaucracies don't work, especially in wartime, and a few of our old tacticians, namely Wedge Antilles and Tycho Celchu emerge to take control of the situation and fight back in the only way they know how...

Good reading! Restores my faith in the sentients of the galaxy. Things are coming full circle, a few against the mighty...

3.5 Rebs for this one folks

Just my two credits, Don
