Well, folks, as we are in the digital age, I thought I would download microsoft e-reader and sample the wares. I made a trip to Amazon.com and purchased a couple of e-books, this being the first.

The story is set several years prior to the events of the Phantom Menace, and Darth Sidious sends out his apprentice, Darth Maul, on his first solo mission.

Maul is sent to the world of Dorvalla, where the major industry is the mining of Lommite ore, which is used the galaxy over for the production of transparisteel. The two major companies in the lommite business are experiencing sabotage and realize that the other company is directly involved.

Maul sets the stage in motion for both companies to fail by adding to the sabotage already taking place. The Trade Federation, secretly in the control of Darth Sidious, picks up the pieces of the broken company and assumes control.....

The book is somewhat lacking in action. I would think that a man of action such as Darth Maul would have more to do than industrial espionage and sabotage. In fact, more time is spent learning the ins and outs of lommite mining than battling with the lightsaber, which is Maul's forte. I think Luceno could have spent more time building on the Sith Lord, because, heck knows, that is what we want!

With disappointment, I have to rate this one a mere 1 rebel insignia. C'mon Jim, we know you can do better - after all, you were the one that brought us the Ryn race!! (Without him, ! wouldn't be here! :) Just my two credits, Don
