Jean was having a bad day. It all started when she had woken up and it
had gone
steadily down hill from there. She had not slept well the previous night,
Scott having
complained non-stop about his damned motorcycle yet again. Couldn't he see
she did not
care if the stupid thing was as great as his first precious one or not. She
was grateful that
Logan had taken off with the other one. She had not been fond of the weekend
rides;
going seventy-five around dangerous curves was not her idea of fun. Who would
ever
believe that her uptight lover was a speed demon? He seemed to glory in the
power of the
machine between his legs. Pushing himself to go faster. It was the only time
he was truly
relaxed and that was the only reason that she put up with it.
She had woken up that morning to find that her motorcycle-obsessed love
was
gone. His side of the bed was already cold as if he had been gone for hours
already. Yet,
he had never been the first one to rise before. While she usually got up
before dawn
anxious to continue her research, he had stayed in bed until seven. Why was
he up so
early today?
Looking at the clock, she realized that it was already eight and she got
up quickly.
Shit! She never slept in this late. Had Scott turned the alarm clock off?
Checking she
found that he had indeed turned the switch to the off position. What was he
thinking he
knew she was supposed to meet with Warren Worthington today. Warren was one
of the
strongest supporters of her research into the mutant gene. Not to mention the
guy was
loaded and was always happy to hand over more money whenever she needed it.
Today's meeting was important and Scott knew that. What was he thinking?
He
probably had not been thinking. He could be so dense sometimes. She wondered
not for
the first time why she had ever thought that a relationship with Scott would
be easy. He
was the quintessential man. More interested in his toys than in his lover.
However, he had been even harder to live with lately. They seemed to
fight over
everything. Not anything that really mattered, just little things. Stupid
things like his
motorcycle, or how much time she spent in the lab. They had never fought this
much
before. It had seemed as if nothing could touch their happiness. Then Logan
had entered
their lives. Nothing had gone right since then.
She could not even blame Logan for it because he had never done anything
overt
or forward. He had never tried to tempt her and yet she had still been
attracted to him. Of
course Scott had caught on rather fast that she was attracted Logan. Getting
caught in the
Logan's room reading into his memories (something she had never actually done
without
the professor present) had only confirmed Scott's suspicions. Yet, he had not
seemed all
that upset. He had talked to her about it briefly telling her that he had
noticed the
attraction between herself and Logan. That was all he said.
Not the reaction she had expected. She had thought they would fight,
possibly
yelling at each other. However, the utter lack of jealousy had thrown her.
Always before,
he had acted as if he had to make her see that he was her man and she his
woman. Of
course, she had never been attracted to any of the other men that seemed to
want to be
with her. She had never been the least bit tempted to leave Scott for another
man.
This was different though. She had to admit to herself if not Scott that
she had
been tempted to leave him for Logan. If only for a while. She knew that a
relationship
with Logan would be out of the question. They were too different he was too
wild and
untamed she was conservative and grounded. No, a match between them was
ridiculous
to even consider. Yet, a brief affair was not out of the question.
Scott would no doubt wait for her to sew her wild oats so to speak. That
was
probably what disturbed her so much about the whole situation. Scott's whole
attitude
was of indifference as if he knew that she was being foolish. Perhaps she was
but he
should have some reaction.
When Logan had left, he had not even been relieved that temptation had
been
removed from her reach. No, he had been worried about his damn bike. Not
about her
turbulent feelings. She had tried to talk with him about it but he always
brushed her off as
if it was not important enough to waste his time over.
Men they talk about women being complicated when they were the
conundrums.
Bah, she pushed it out of her mind for now she had more important things to
worry about.
Like how she was going, to explain to Mr.Worthington that she had hit a snag
in her
research and needed more time. She was not all that worried about his
reaction. It was the
board of trustees he headed she was worried about.
She made it downstairs just as Warren was pulling on his coat over those
glorious
wings. Damn Scott. Now she was going to look like a complete incompetent.
"Mr.Worthington wait!" She cried out. Wincing when she realized she
sounded
desperate. Way to go Jean. Just make him think you are desperate on top of
being
incompetent.
Turning Warren glowered. "So nice of you to finally show up Ms.Grey. I
was
beginning to think that you were avoiding me." His voice was smooth and
cultured
almost melodic in tone. It completed his image as an Angel. He was known as
the Mutant
cover boy. Being one of the most sought after millionaire playboys in the
world. Despite
his being a mutant.
"I am so sorry Mr.Worthington. Please forgive me. I woke up rather later
than
usual today. I am just now going to the lab. Won't you join me?" She
entreated.
Looking at his watch, Warren frowned. "I suppose I could spare a few more
moments. However, I warn you Ms.Grey you had better have something for me to
show
the board. They are getting rather restless." He did not sound at all like
he
was in a
forgiving mood today. Damn again.
What was she going to do now? She had next to nothing to show him. God
she
was in it deep now. Turning the corner towards the elevator to the lower
levels she ran
into Ororo.
"Goddess! I am so glad it is you I ran into Jean." Hastily regaining
her
balance the
other women face was a study in emotional upheaval.
"What is it Ororo?" Jean asked more relieved at the interupption then
she
could
express at the moment.
"It's Rogue." Jeans blood went cold hearing the other woman's answer.
Oh
dear
God what had the girl done. A thousand scenarios ran through her head all of
them
ending with someone in the lab hurt or dead.
"What did she do?" Jean asked forgetting they had an audience.
"Jean I think it would be better if we had this conversation in private.
You
understand do you not Mr.Worthinghton?" Ororo always competent even under
stress
took over.
"Of course. We will continue this at a more convenient time Ms.Grey."
With that,
Warren left. Jean was relieved to say the least. However now she had another
problem to
deal with.
"Know tell me what that girl has done Ororo." Jean braced herself for
the
worst.
Ororo looked uncomfortable. "She killed one of my plants." Seeing
Jean
frown,
she elaborated. "It was not completely her fault. I convinced her to take
her
gloves off
and touch the plant." Ororo sounded guilty.
"I suppose now I will have to be the one to go and calm her down. You
should not
have had her take her gloves off. Something much worse could have happened.
That girl
has no control you know that." Jean rubbed her forehead and frowned at the
other
woman.
"I hope this does not set her back. She was just beginning to trust
herself around
the other students." Ororo said with remorse.
Why was everyone so concerned about this girl's mental well being? She
was a
teenager for gods' sake. Teenagers bounced back from everything. Humph. Even
Scott
seemed to pay more attention to the chit. Jean thought that maybe the
southern bell
routine was a little contrived.
For that matter the whole wounded dove act was a little over the top. No
one had
coddled her when she had first manifested. She had had a million voices in
her head.
Going insane had not been a far off prospect. Yet, she had gotten it under
control and
gone on with her life. The girl was probably just milking the experience for
all it was
worth.
Jean had not missed the animosity the girl had toward her. Jean knew it
was
because of Logan's feelings toward her. Rogue had wanted Logan all to
herself. Hah. A
man like Logan needed a woman not a little girl.
Shaking her head to clear her thoughts she scanned the area looking for
the girl.
There she is! What was she doing in the garage? Ah Scott was there. Jean had
not missed
Rogues sudden interest in Scott either.
Walking briskly toward the garage, she wished that the Professor had not
drummed it into her head that probing other people's minds without their
permission was
unethical. She would have liked to know what the girl was up to.
Entering the garage, she saw that Scott and Rogue were standing close
together.
O.k. what is going on here? I'll just have to break this little chat up.
"There you are
Rogue. Ororo told me about the incident in the greenhouse. That is something
that I even
could not have anticipated." Jean knew she sounded superior but well she
was.
Jean continued on in the same manner telling Rogue how reckless it had
been for
her to do anything without her gloves on. In addition, hadn't she learned
anything from
her previous mistakes? It was around this point that she realized that
neither Rogue nor
Scott were listening to her. Looking between them, she could see something
was going
on opening her shields, she was bombarded with confusion and lust. Lust?!
Back up.
Where was that coming from she narrowed her focus until she felt the source
and it was
both of them. What the hell.
Rogue turned to face Jean then and she could fell the rage surface on her
face.
What had she done to make Scott feel like that toward her?!
"May I speak with you Rogue?" Jean was surprised to note that her
voice
held
nothing of her feelings. So, it was more demand than question she did not
really care.
"Suh." The little twit sounded as if she was going to the gallows. Oh
if
only she
was. Maybe Jean was wrong about Logan being the one messing her and Scott's
relationship up maybe it had been Rogue all along.
Jean led the way to the Study and Rogue followed her in. Jean leveled a
look at
Rogue that made her wince. Good she deserved to feel pain. What did she think
she was
doing messing with Scott? He is mine!!
"Rogue I realize you miss Logan and that you have a little crush on him.
But you
can not transfer your feelings for Logan to Scott." Jean tried to sound
concerned. She did
not need Rogue feeling the need to rebel against her and redoubling her
efforts to seduce
Scott. If that was what she was doing. Jean was not sure but it sounded right
to her
intuition.
"Ah don't know what you're talking about sugah. Ah, don't have a little
crush on
Logan as you put it. So how can Ah transfer feelings Ah don't have to
Scott?"
Her tone
along with that damn accent was pissing me off more.
"Look Rogue you do not have to pretend with me I know that you think that
you
are in love with Logan. Moreover, I saw you looking at Scott. I know that
look. I have
seen it on enough of the other girls faces." Pausing Jean sighed trying to
release her
tension. "But I think you might just have gotten it into your head to go
after Scott. He is a
very handsome man and he is kind. Nevertheless, he is too old for you. I do
not want to
see you get hurt Rogue." Jean could really care less if the girl was hurt
just as long as she
stayed away from Scott. Let her
have Logan.
"Like Ah said before Ms.Grey Ah don't think Ah'm in love with Logan
and
Ah
don't know how mah looking at Scott has anything to do with it." Rogue
sounded
confused. Jesus why wouldn't the stupid girl just go with it and let Jean's
suggestion take
hold. Oops! Jean closed her shields she did not want the Professor knowing
she was
trying to influence Rogue's mind.
"I am trying to be nice here Rogue. I know your situation has forced you
to grow
up faster than other girls your age. But you are still not emotionally ready
for the kind of
relationship you are dreaming of." Jean said. Not quite able to curb
her
impatience.
"Stop treatin' me like Ah don't know my own mind. Ah know what Ah'm
feelin'
and it's none of ya concern. Ah'm certainly no threat no threat to ya."
That's right you
little bitch you are not a threat to me. Jean shook herself. Then why was she
feeling the
need to wipe Rogue's mind?
"That's right you are not a threat to me. I know Scott loves me."
Jean
smiled
trying to feel as confident as she sounded. "I am just concerned that when
Scott realizes
you have a crush on him you will get hurt. Maybe I should tell him. Then
maybe we can
get all of this settled without anyone being made to feel more
uncomfortable." She smiled
again knowing that she had to look confident.
"You wouldn't dare." Rogue said sounding furious. Good she would not
think
about Scott if she were mad enough at her.
"Only if you force me to Rogue. I do not want to seem insensitive to your
feelings
but you can never have a relationship with Scott." Pausing she smiled.
"Or
Logan for that
matter." So, take that Jean thought maliciously.
Sensing that the girl was as furious as she could get her without losing
control,
she slipped out of the Study. She closed the door carefully even though she
would have
liked to slam the damn thing.
She could feel the Professor's mental tap and shrugged it off she could
not let him
know what she was thinking right now.
Walking up the stairs, she went to her and Scott's room. What was she
going to
do about this? She suddenly felt the need to lie down.
It was a couple of hours later that Jean woke up feeling worse than when
she had
lain down. Looking at the time she realized it was after noon and she was
hungry.
Making her way down to the Kitchen, she was careful to avoid bumping into
anyone else.
She so did not want to talk to anyone right now.
Walking outside with a sandwich and soda she made her way slowly to the
lake.
Sitting down she ate trying not to think about anything. The sounds of the
lapping water
soon lulled her to sleep again.
She woke the second time feeling cold and sore from lying on the ground
for so
long. Glancing at her watch, she realized that it was after one a.m. Why
hadn't Scott
come looking for her. Didn't he care that she had not been in their bed?
Wasn't he
worried about her? Brushing the questions away as she was brushing the dirt
of her slacks
she headed toward the Mansion.
It was then that she heard the roar of a motorcycle. Looking toward the
driveway
she saw it speed by. Was that Scott? She watched as the Man got off the bike
and realized
that he had a stockier build than Scott. Logan? It couldn't be. What was he
doing here?
Hurrying toward the house she tried to catch him before he went inside.
However,
she was not fast enough. She made it to the door just in time to watch as
Rogue in Scott's
jacket launched herself at Logan. Turning away quickly, she tried to calm her
breathing.
Why was that little bitch wearing Scott's Jacket? What was going on?
Her mind felt as if it was being torn in two different directions and she
felt tired
despite her two naps. Going around toward the back of the Mansion, she went
to the
Study and curled up on the couch. It was only then that she allowed herself
to cry. She
cried until there were no more tears to shed and then she fell into an
exhausted sleep.
--------------------------------------------------
Yes, I'm done. Well what did ya think? I tried to get into the Mega
Bitches head
but instead she got into mine and she is still there. Out Jean Out! I guess
that's what I get
for messing with a telepath huh. Well anyway, the next one will be the
Professor's POV.
See ya then.
