Release of "Memorial Day" Single and Video
From Whammo.com.au Some of this we know, but read the last paragraph. G-D, I want to see these videos.
Australian band 30 Odd Foot Of Grunts this week release to radio Memorial
Day, the second track to be lifted from their album Bastard Life Or Clarity.
Released to coincide with the lead up to Anzac Day (25 Apr), Memorial Day is
a powerful statement about the impact of war on those who lived through it
and on the generations that followed them. Vocalist and co-songwriter of
TOFOG Russell Crowe dedicated the song to his grandfather Stanley J Wemyss
MBE, an acclaimed cinematographer whose work includes the important piece
Easter Action In Bougainville.
Crowe recently commented on the significance of Memorial Day:
"My grandfather was a cinematographer in the Second World War. He got an MBE
for war photography. One of the worst things about my relationship with my
grandfather is I learnt more about what he did in his life after he was
dead. I had some kind of inkling that there was something important because
people would talk about it in hushed tones, but whenever I asked him about
it he would change the subject. He was a very reticent man and not very
open, but I find myself, every time the build up to Anzac Day comes around
in April, thinking about him.
"That's what Memorial Day is about. He achieved a lot of things in his life
and it's a tribute to him, but I think it's also about Anzac Day in general
and it's about how Australians and New Zealanders, particularly in my
generation and the generations after, have really started to fully
appreciate the freedom that we were granted by a group of men that went and
gave their lives and their efforts for us."
Crowe recently dedicated his Academy Award for Best Actor to his
grandfather, along with his late uncle, David Crowe. He wore his
grandfather's MBE to the Awards, the first time the medal had been publicly
displayed.
The release of Memorial Day is accompanied by a music video that combines
footage from Easter Action In Bougainville with the work of filmmaker
Richard Frankland and new dramatic footage shot recently in Northern NSW by
Crowe, American director Brett Leonard and Sydney cameraman Brendan
Fletcher. The result is a striking and at times harrowing video that is sure
to receive attention in the lead up to Anzac Day.

Their first music video and single that is rumored to be released in Australia for their forthcoming album is "Things have got to Change" where the band rented out an art studio for the day located in Austin during their stay in August 2000. The video is set in a relaxed atmosphere with picnic tables, BBQ, and lots of people outside while Russell is singing to a woman inside the studio. I will have more details on this video when it becomes available to me.

Okay we have our first little review of the video for Things have got to change. Now although this person didn't realize what she was watching at first and wasn't prepared for the band's video debut on tv, she was able to revive herself and tell us what she was able to remember after seeing it for the first time. Thanks cj!
"Channel V (music channel in Oz) just premiered the release of video Things Have Got To Change. It was set in an Austin caravan park, Russell was sleeping in bed under a sheet, you saw him come out of caravan and start singing, lady with bright red curly hair was standing at caravan door with a sour look on her face holding Russell's favorite flannel shirt (the one he wore on Leno) There was a spotlight on all band members throughout video, Dean was wearing his cutoff rose shirt. There were people milling about drinking ( good ad for VB ) then at the end of the song the redhead threw his shirt at him in disgust and he got into pickup and drove away.
Very similar format to Circus video only in colour. Music was great, lyrics were great, video was cryptic, lots of cameos of Russell's favorite things. Humourous in a Russell type of way.
Have been playing Gaslight for so long that I think I would have loved anything. I was in shock when I saw it, nothing registered well.
You only saw partial face while he was under sheet, and he was wearing the Lucky shirt while he was singing."
